SIE Cram Sheet (2 pages) — Securities Industry Essentials
Covers the current FINRA SIE exam outline · Written and maintained by Todd Lavergne, Todd Lavergne Media · Last updated Oct 2026
The SIE covers a lot of ground, but the scoring is lopsided: Products and Their Risks is 44% of the exam. This two-page cram sheet is weighted the same way.
Page 1 summarizes FINRA’s four SIE outline sections, each with its weight and question count:
- Capital markets: who regulates what, primary vs secondary markets, and offering exemptions.
- Products and their risks: equity, debt, packaged products and options.
- Trading, accounts and prohibited activities: order types, margin, account types, AML and the conduct list.
- The regulatory framework: the ’33 and ’34 Acts, U4/U5 and exam lapse rules.
Page 2 has the charts:
- A product-and-risk table with eleven product types, what you own, the main risks, and the detail the exam likes to test.
- Who does what (SEC, FINRA, MSRB, SIPC, FDIC, the Fed).
- Order types at a glance, plus a plain-English acronym list.
- Numbers to memorize: 75 questions, 1 hour 45 minutes, a score of 70, T+1, Reg T 50%, 25% maintenance, SIPC $500,000 / $250,000 cash, and the 8 a.m.–9 p.m. cold-call window.
It’s drawn from our SIE Complete Guide and FINRA’s published outline. It’s a review sheet, not a full course. It fits alongside Achievable, Kaplan, STC or any other prep you’re using.
